Main Features of Honed Tube

El Tubo Honeado is a very special tube, it has several unique characteristics that make it the best tube for manufacturing Hydraulic Cylinders.

1.- Tight Wall Thickness Tolerances

DOM tubes have guaranteed tight wall thickness tolerances. A tolerance is how precise or accurate the measurement of a tube is. For example: A tube with an O.D. of 2.000” and a wall thickness of .125”. The specified tolerance for this DOM tube measurement would be .002” and -.004”. This means that the maximum wall thickness for this tube diameter will be .127” and the minimum wall thickness will be .121”.

2.- Uniform Wall Thickness

Being Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) the Tubo Honeado acquires one of its most important characteristics, which is having uniform wall thickness. This means that the tube shows concentricity in terms of wall thickness along its entire length. That is, from the beginning to the end of the tube, its wall has exactly the same thickness. There are no fluctuations in length as in tubes that are not Drawn Over Mandrel. Thanks to its uniform wall thickness and other characteristics, the Tubo Honeado is the most used for hydraulic cylinders.

3.- Smoother Interior and Exterior Diameter Surfaces

The Drawn Over Mandrel process gives the Tubo Honeado a smoother
inner diameter and outer diameter surface. Due to the great force with which the tube is drawn over the mandrel, its surfaces acquire this smoothness or additional smoother surface.

4.- Increased Tensile and Hardness Properties

Also thanks to the Drawn Over Mandrel process, the Normalizing process, and all the
tests to which the honed tube is subjected, it obtains increased tensile and hardness properties. This means that the tube becomes stronger and has a longer life when used under hard working conditions.
